The senior lost his preliminary match to Jefferson-Morgan's John Demaske, who finished sixth, by a 4-0 decision. Mashack rebounded and picked up a 9-6 overtime win over Wyoming Area's Charles Johnson in his first round consolation bout to setup a rematch with Pius X's Dante Albanese, whom he'd lost to the previous two weeks at the district and regional tournaments. Much like those matches, this one was again close. But unfortunately for Mashack, Albanese yet again came away victorious, earning a 6-4 decision win that ended the Tamaqua senior's tournament. Albanese went on to finish eighth. The remainder of the group is unchanged after not competing following the district tournament.132 - 1. Dylan Rynkiewicz, Tamaqua, Jr. (35-6); 2. The senior started strong, winning his first two matches over Jeannette's Gio Vonne Sanders and Jefferson-Morgan's Jason Miller, respectively, to advance to the semifinals. Evans next opponent was Brookville's Brock Zacherl, a senior that boasted a 37-2 record coming into the tournament and was coming off a Northwest Regional championship. Evans wrestled tough, but ultimately suffered a 12-0 major decision loss to Zacherl, who went on to win the state championship. Unfortunately for Evans things didn't get any easier, as Fort Leboeuf's George McGuire, who finished fourth, dealt he Palmerton senior another setback by claiming a win in their fourth round consolation match. Despite the two losses, Evans still had a chance finish his career with a win, and the senior made the most of the opportunity, claiming a 2-1 decision victory over Saegertown's Nick Monico in the fifth-place match. Others in the group are unchanged after not competing following the district tournament.145 - 1. Anthony Farano, Lehighton, Sr. (18-16); 2. CJ Young, Northern Lehigh, So. (20-12); 3. (14-11).Notes - Frey posted a 1-2 mark at the PIAA Championships. The sophomore lost his opening bout to the Northwest Regional champion Dylan Reynolds of Saegertown by fall. The result is somewhat misleading, as Frey and Reynolds were scoreless in the second period when the Saegertown junior, who went on to finish third, earned the victory. Frey showed resolve in winning his first round consolation match by a 3-1 decision over Montoursville's Lucas Shaheen. The win setup a second round bout with Hamburg's Cody Miller, who defeated Frey the previous week at the regional tournament. Though it was close, Miller once again got the best of Frey, earning a 3-2 decision win. Only a sophomore, Frey should only improve in the years to come. Others in the group are unchanged after being inactive following the district tournament.195 - 1. Richard Nase, Panther Valley, Sr. (33-10); 2. Stephen Scheib, Northern Lehigh, Jr. (9-9).Notes - Nase went 2-3 in Hershey, placing 8th. The senior opened with a huge 3-1 decision win over Hyndman's James Bennett, the Southwest Regional champion who entered the tournament with a 35-1 record. Nase lost a tough 3-1 decision in his quarterfinal match against Boiling Springs' Kyle Taylor, but was able to earn a 5-3 decision win over Fort Leboeuf's Garrett Reinwald in his second round consolation match to guarantee himself a spot on the podium. Though he lost his final two matches to Benton's Logan Womelsdorf and United's Tyler Oliver, respectively, Nase still accomplished what he set out to do: Leave Hershey with a medal.220 - 1. Rian Shubeck, Panther Valley, Jr. (33-10).Notes - Shubeck went 0-2 at the PIAA Championships, earning tough draws in both of his matches. The junior suffered a loss by technical fall to Avella's Jake Temple in his opening match. Avella, who entered the tournament 39-0, was the Southwest Regional champion and later went on to claim the gold in Hershey. Shubeck lost a 4-1 decision to Conneaut's Connor Overman, who went on to finish sixth and was the Northwest Regional runner-up. While not the results he was hoping for, Shubeck will get another chance next season and should benefit from the experience he gained this postseason.285 - 1.
