State troopers injured in Chestnuthill crash

Two troopers from the Fern Ridge state police barracks were injured in a crash early Sunday morning in Chestnuthill Township.

According to state police at Swiftwater, Jean Fonte, 25, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2004 Dodge Status on Route 115 near Weir Lake Road in Chestnuthill Township at 12:39 a.m. Sunday. Trooper Jeffrey Kowalski of Blakeslee, no age given, was driving north when Fonte's car crossed over and hit the troopers' car head-on.Ponte's car traveled to the right, coming to a final rest facing south on Route 115. Kowalski's car, a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria, traveled north and to the right. The car came to final rest facing northbound.Trooper Gary Fedorczyk, 38, of Blakeslee was a passenger in Kowalski's car.Erin Dooner, 30, of Effort, was a passenger in Fonte's car. All were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries, police said.Assisting police at scene were West End and Wind Gap ambulances and MedEvac.
