March 17, 2006 Panther Valley's Allysa Vavra wins a gold medal and also sets a new state record at the PIAA Class AA state swimming championships. Vavra, a sophomore, gains her title in the 200 individual medley. After breaking the old mark in the preliminaries, she sets a new standard in the finals with a time of 2:01.94. Vavra also earns medals in two relay events. PV's 200 freestyle relay team of Vavra, Amanda Terray, Nicole Taras and Sami Vavra take fifth place while the 200 medley relay squad of the Vavras, Terray and Laura Tatusko finish sixth. Marian's Kristen Shickora captures a silver medal in the 50 free with a time of 23.81 while PV's Terray takes sixth in the same event.
