Misericordia Players to present 'Rumors'

DALLAS, Pa. - The Misericordia Players will present Neil Simon's Tony Award-winning comedy, "Rumors," at 8 p.m. Friday, April 3, through Sunday, April 5, at Lemmond Theater in Walsh Hall.

Tickets are available at the door. There is a reduced rate for senior citizens and students.Scott Colin Woolnough of Plains is directing the farcical comedy that opened on Broadway in 1988 and ran for more than 500 performances. Jeffrey Kelly of Dallas and Patrick McKamy of Kingston Township will share the duties of technical director. Student Mikayla Gillette of Hawley will assist Woolnough as stage manager.The cast features local Misericordia University students, including: Jasmine Mae Busi and Melvin Jay Busi of Saylorsburg and Matthew Cebrosky of Lehighton.Simon is widely considered America's best-known living playwright and is the only author in recent times to have four plays running simultaneously on Broadway."Rumors," his 23rd play, is the story of four couples who arrive at the townhouse of a deputy New York City mayor and his wife to attend a party and soon discover that there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the deputy mayor is slightly injured after shooting himself in the head.Comedy ensues when the upper-class group decides they need to do everything possible to conceal the evening's events from the local police and media.For more information about cultural events at Misericordia University, go to
