The Garden Party
There will be a dinner and party to celebrate the life of Adam Jablonski in a charity effort to raise monies to help his parents, Ken and Sally Jablonski, offset personal and medical expenses that came as a result of Adam's tragic and extended illness that ended with his passing on Dec. 27, 2013. The Garden Party will be held from 5-11 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at the Franklin Township Fire Hall, Lehighton.
Adam enjoyed beekeeping, gardening, landscaping and travel. He especially loved Paris and Tuscany, and visited those areas several times. He graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 2012, earning his Eagle Scout the same year. He was an active member of Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville, where his Eagle project, a faith garden, was constructed. He was a junior assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 84 and a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.Adam loved dogs, especially his own, Bella and Luca. He was a volunteer at Animal Welfare Society of Monroe and was always willing to do pet sitting for many friends. He was a member of the Pocono Mountain Beekeepers Association and a member of his church's property committee and mission trip groups, which led him to North Carolina and Georgia.Adam was known for his loving spirit, his sense of humor and his beautiful smile. He always put others before himself. In December of 2012, while attending classes at Northampton Community College, Adam sensed a severe pain in his chest that was affecting his heartbeat and breathing. He was rushed to the emergency room at St. Luke's Hospital's Anderson Campus, and after extensive testing and thorough body scans, he was diagnosed with a highly unusual and rare type of cancer that created a large life-threatening tumor that had been growing undetected between his heart and lung since birth. This rare form of cancer had caused a large germ cell tumor to not only lodge itself between Adam's heart and lung, but to fuse itself to both of these critical organs. After several months of chemotherapy at St. Luke's, the tumor continued to grow, and doctors at St. Luke's escalated the case to specialists at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Over many months, Adam continued to be hospitalized and received more advanced and aggressive forms of chemotherapy at HUP in hope that the tumor would shrink enough to allow a team of HUP oncologists and thoracic surgeons to perform a highly sophisticated and complex surgery that would have removed the tumor from between his heart and lung.In late December 2013, the doctors at HUP determined that Adam's cancer was inoperable and that the family should seek possible alternative therapies. His condition continued to worsen despite all attempts with these therapies, and Adam was brought home from the hospital to hospice care right before Christmas. On Dec. 27, Adam, who was just 19 years old, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends. The last year of testing, treatment and hospitalization at St. Luke's and at HUP in Philadelphia has been emotionally and financially draining on the family.A group of highly motivated and dedicated individuals joined together to organize "The Garden Party" as a benefit for Adam, who loved people, parties and he loved to have a great time. He lived his life to the fullest, and in his honor, it will be a celebration of his life.Joe Hughart has nicknamed it, "March-toberfest." There will be food, beverages, dancing and entertainment by "The Identity Crisis Band" starting at 6 p.m. and DJ Super G, as well as prizes. All night long there will be "The Ultra-Humongous, Super Incredible Dessert Extravaganza," and organizers hope to break The World Record for The Largest Dessert Table in the World. Bring a plate of your favorite cookies, brownies, pies, cakes. The beer is being provided by donor-sponsors, Kevin and Kyle Seaton from Quality Manufacturing and Fabrication.
