Trash collection back on track in Lehighton

All is well again with trash collection in Lehighton.

Several borough officials addressed the matter during a special meeting of borough council on Friday. Before the most recent garbage collection, the borough fielded numerous complaints over the issue, which prompted it to distribute at this past Monday's regular meeting of council a message that explained the state of garbage removal in the borough. As part of that message, the borough asked residents to place garbage on main streets when there is a large snowfall.Councilman Scott Rehrig said the borough manager and borough secretary have worked "diligently" to make sure that garbage has been picked up throughout the borough.Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said that the borough's current trash hauler, Advanced Disposal, has ensured that garbage collection will run smoothly. It was noted by borough secretary Brenda Koons that the issue is one that's been faced by many municipalities, and not just the borough."We aren't the only town who's having this problem," Koons said. "It's not just us; it's just the worst winter we've had in some time."Rehrig then commended the borough's entire staff, as well as the police department, fire department, public maintenance department, whom he said, "Have gone above and beyond what is required of them in these (situations)."
