Palmerton to purchase new cruiser

Palmerton plans to purchase a brand new police cruiser for its police department.

In addition, borough council on Thursday approved rules and regulations for police applicant testing.On a 4-0 measure, with one abstention, council agreed to spend $31,458 for a 2014 Ford Interceptor from KME Kovatch in Nesquehoning.Borough manager Rodger Danielson said money from the borough's general fund would be used to purchase the vehicle.Councilmen Richard Nothstein, Kris Hoffner, Councilwoman Holly Sell, and council President Terry Costenbader voted in favor, with an abstention from Councilman Jason Behler.Councilmen Jeremy Barbosa and Michael Ballard were absent.In a related police department matter, council, on a pair of 5-0 votes, approved the Civil Service Commission rules and regulations, as well as the advertisement for police applicant testing.Danielson noted that there is a $35 application fee associated with the testing.Last fall, council had asked for a list of potential candidates for its police department, he said."The borough needs to have a viable list available should they need an officer," Danielson said.
