Mahoning supervisors move to support county Council of Governments

At their February meeting, Mahoning Township supervisors unanimously agreed to show support for a Carbon County Council of Governments by adopting a resolution to participate in it.

The Council of Governments is being formed for the purpose of sharing services and to form a bloc of communities to apply for grants and related types of business.In a second vote, the board appointed township Supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt to act as the voting delegate on the board with Vice Chairperson Franklin Ruch acting as an alternate delegate. This motion also carried unanimously.In other business, the township supervisors unanimously:• Hired Kyle Kohler as a part-time police officer.• Granted Amie Barclay a Heart and Lung Benefit.• Adopted a resolution to authorize electronic access to the Department of Transportation Grants online reporting system to file the annual required Liquid Fuels form.• Appointed Supervisor Shawn Haggerty to a four-year term on the Planning Commission (this was a 4-0 vote with Haggerty abstaining)• Appointed Steigerwalt to attend as the voting delegate to the annual Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors convention (this vote was 4-0 with Steigerwalt abstaining).• Approved advertising for a police chief.
