A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 11:08 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, in the 1300 block of Red Dale Road in West Brunswick Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said James A. Barton, 49, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound and swerved to the left to avoid a deer entering the road. The Tahoe traveled into the westbound lane and onto the berm and up an embankment striking a utility pole.After impact the Tahoe continued east and struck a tree. The Tahoe came to rest facing south, blocking both lanes of travel.Barton, who was not injured, showed signs of intoxication, troopers said. Troopers said he will be charged with DUI and related offenses. The Tahoe sustained disabling damages.
