At least three people were injured Wednesday afternoon in Tamaqua after a tractor trailer tore through a main borough thoroughfare.

Emergency personnel responded to the chain reaction crash, which happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. along a half-mile stretch of Route 309, and found multiple vehicles impacted by a tractor trailer.According to witnesses at the scene, the truck entered town from the north and crashed into vehicles as it rambled southbound on North Railroad and South Center streets.One victim, Cindy Hutta of Coaldale, was visibly shaken after her vehicle was struck from behind during the incident.Vehicles parked along Railroad were pushed during the crash and found houses away.The tractor trailer continued down Railroad Street following the crash, crossed the Five Points intersection and smashed into a row of at least three additional vehicles near Fegley's Mini Mart before stopping.Tamaqua police identified one female who needed to be airlifted; while two others were taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital - Miners campus in Coaldale.The driver of the rig appeared confused and was transported via ambulance.A number of emergency personnel responded, including Tamaqua Fire Police, Tamaqua Fire Department and Tamaqua Ambulance.The investigation is continuing and names of the victims and all parties involved were not available at this time.
