PVSD receives safety grant

Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) announced that the Panther Valley School District has received funding under the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Safe Schools Targeted Grant Program.

The district will receive $24,690 through the program, to be used to establish and implement programs to prevent and reduce incidents of violence."Schools should be a safe haven for our children," Heffley said. "I know that the Panther Valley School District will put this money to good use. Grant funding used in helping keep students safe is money well spent."The focus of the grant program is to assists schools by reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions and promoting an environment of greater productivity, safety and learning; providing professional development to staff using research-based violence prevention and classroom management programs; and enhancing antiviolence efforts among schools and parents, local governments, law enforcement and community organizations.For more legislative news, visit
