Some schools modifying kindergarten due to icy roads

A few schools in the area that have half-day kindergarten are modifying schedules for today as a result of icy road conditions.

Tamaqua Area School District Superintendent Carol Makuta announced that PM kindergarten has been canceled in Tamaqua and AM kindergarten students will remain in the school for a full day and dismiss at 3:20 p.m.Panther Valley School District Superintendent Rosemary Porembo said that PV is also canceling PM kindergarten and keeping AM kindergarten students for a full day. They will also dismiss at 3:20 p.m."We had to make a decision because the buses would be leaving at 11:30 a.m., to take the AM kindergarten students home and pick up the PM kindergarten and because of the roads right now, I didn't want to place people at risk," Porembo said, adding that if parents want to pick their child up once temperatures rise, that is okay, but please be careful and do not put yourself at risk. Both schools will be providing lunches to the kindergarten students.
