Prothonotary's report

A total of 262 cases were started in December in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases:Civil actions, 24; custody complaints,15; district justice appeals, 2; divorce complaints, 10; ejectment complaints, 3; eminent domain/ petition for views, 1; license appeals, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 22; complaint in partition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 26; replevin complaint, 1; quiet title action,1; zoning appeal, 1; audits/ financial reports, 2; court appointments, 5; judgments, 142; paternity suit, 1; and miscellaneous cases, 2. The office staff also received and processed 85 applications for U.S. Passports.Behrens' financial report shows $28,519 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $23,306; interest income, 82 cents; custody fees; $400; and data processing fees, $4,811.The prothonotary also remitted $2,204 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $48 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996.
