65,000 packets of heroin seized in traffic stop

A large quantity of heroin was seized following a vehicle stop in Monroe County last week.

State police at Fern Ridge said troopers stopped a car about 1:02 p.m. on Jan. 29 along Interstate 80 westbound in Tunkhannock Township for a traffic violation.At the stop troopers said they noticed indicators of criminal activity. As a result a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle.Found in the trunk of the car was about 65,000 packets of heroin.Troopers said Taquece Emanuel Chitty, 26, of Gwynn Oak, Md., and Ronald Abraham Carter, 36, of Paterson, N.J., were arrested. Each were charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy-possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.The two were arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post $200,000 straight bail each.
