The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for February, including a special Valentine's Day breakfast on Feb. 14.Other activities for the month include: Feb. 7, musical entertainment by Tanya; Feb. 12, craft day; Feb. 13, manicures; Feb. 19, Salvation Army service: Feb. 24, cooking class; Feb. 25, a day of reminiscing; Feb. 26, sing a long with Audrey Christ; Feb. 27, visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten class; Feb. 28, visit from the foot doctor.In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center, becoming a member of the board of directors, or services provided, may call (570) 668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.School taxesThe Tamaqua Area School District is accepting Assessed Occupation Tax exemption applications for the 2014-2015 school year. This will cover the 2014 calendar year. This year's forms are orange.Retired persons and housewives with no earned income, who have previously been exempted, do not need to file again unless their status has changed and they are now earning income.Also, those who are disabled or at least 75 years of age, who have been specifically notified of their exemption by the district, need not file an application.Students who reach the age of 18 by June 30, 2014, will be responsible for paying the tax unless exempt by application.Requests for exemption must be filed with the district by March 1. Application forms are available at the school district administration building, local tax collectors' offices, the Tamaqua Public Library, Tamaqua Borough Hall, local post offices and all local bank branches.Zion's Stone ChurchThe Rev. Michael Frost will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion's Stone Church in West Penn Township. Sunday school classes are held at 10:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.A Bible study session is held from 10:30 a.m. to noon every Thursday.The youth group will be participating in World Vision's 30 Hour Famine the weekend of March 14-15. Members and advisers will go without food in an effort to help hungry children throughout the world. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley.
