For many years, Tamaqua had no provisions or rate for collection of trash from businesses. If a merchant should ask, he was told by the borough to contract with a private hauler. Recently the borough revised its policy and rates on garbage collection in anticipation of entering into a private contract for garbage disposal when the borough landfill closes this spring.
