State Police at Lehighton are investigating an apparent homicide in Jim Thorpe after human remains were discovered in a wooded area in the borough.

According to the police report, the remains were discovered off Flagstaff Road, at approximately 9:50 a.m. Saturday, while Jim Thorpe Fire Department personnel were extinguishing a reported brush fire.Preliminary forensic results led investigators to believe the remains are that of an unidentified female.The investigation is continuing. State police's major case team is handling the investigation.Anyone with information regarding the crime or identity of the woman is asked to contact Lehighton State Police at 610-377-4270.
