Decisions, decisions…

It wasn't the "Shot Heard 'Round the World," but it certainly resonated well beyond the Catasauqua High School Gymnasium.

During Thursday night's quarterfinal round of the District 11 Class AA Team Championships, Palisades forfeited every weight class against heavily-favored Bethlehem Catholic, resulting in a stunning and unusual 84-0 loss for the Pirates.Coach Omar Porrata's decision to forfeit the matches could result in sanctions against Palisades High School, pending a district hearing on February 16 at 11 a.m.Bethlehem Catholic coach Jeff Karam decided to rest Luke Karam and Zeke Moisey, both ranked nationally by InterMat Wrestling, and go with some of his still very talented junior varsity wrestlers instead. What role that lineup move played in Palisades' decision to forfeit all the bouts is unknown. The loss didn't end Palisades' tournament hopes, as the Pirates are scheduled to take on Catasauqua this morning in the consolation semifinals.Next up for top-seed Bethlehem Catholic is No. 4 Northern Lehigh, which dispatched the Rough Riders in the one quarterfinal match that actually took place Thursday night. While Bulldogs' coach Steve Hluschak doesn't plan on taking the same strategy against the Golden Hawks, he fully comprehends Porrata's reasoning."We'll wrestle our guys, but I can understand what they're doing," Hluschak said of the Pirates' strategy. "They (Bethlehem Catholic) don't follow the same rules as everybody else. They can go out and get any guy they want."Every guy on my team has a 18080 zip code, and I don't know if they can say that. It's not a level playing field and I can understand why they did it. There are some pros and cons, obviously. But we plan on wrestling, that's for sure."That match will take place today at Freedom High School at 10:45 a.m.In the consolation quarterfinals, 10th seed Lehighton will take on sixth-seed Pine Grove at 9 a.m., also at Freedom High School. The Indians still have a chance to advance to the PIAA Team Wrestling Championships as the Class AA "Ultimate Qualifier."
