Cold delays the start of school again

The bitter cold is delaying school days yet again.

Schools throughout the TIMES NEWS coverage area called for a delay this morning because of the near zero temperatures and sub-zero wind chills.Those with two-hour delays include: Carbon Career & Technical Institute, Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Palmerton, Panther Valley, St. John Neumann, St. Joseph's Regional, Tamaqua, Weatherly, Pleasant Valley and St. Jerome's Regional.A wind chill advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. today.PJM Interconnection, the electricity grid operator for the area, is asking that everyone conserve electricity today. The call for conservation is prompted by another wave of frigid weather that will push up the demand for electricity.PJM says the most critical times to conserve is between 6 and 10 a.m. and 5 and 9 p.m.A look aheadWednesday is also looking like a cold, clear day, with daytime temperatures hovering near 19, with wind chill values as low as negative-4, the National Weather Service reports.There is a little relief from the arctic temperatures coming by the end of the week.By Friday, temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-30s.There is a chance of rain or snow on Saturday, with daytime temperatures near 37.
