Impaired driving cases head to county court

A number of defendants appeared this past week before District Judge Steven Bayer, whose court is located in Tamaqua, on charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol and/or controlled substances. One defendant failed to appear for his preliminary hearing, which was then conducted without him. All of the defendants will now face trial in Schuylkill County Court.

Brandon Ryan Reed, 20, of Shenandoah, didn't make it to court and had the charges against him held over for trial. He was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, his first offense. He was also charged with having improper sunscreening on his vehicle. The charges were filed by McAdoo Patrolman William Curilla following a Nov. 20, 2013 incident.Vincent Dagostin, 40, of 430 S. Kennedy Drive, McAdoo, had charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense, and careless driving bound over to county court. He was charged by McAdoo Patrolman Steven Homanko following an Aug. 17, 2013 incident.Dagostin was released on his own recognizance (no bail set).Willis E. Negron, 33, of 146 Bankway, Lehighton, had charges filed against him bound over for court. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (first offense), driving under the influence of a controlled substance/alcohol combined, endangering the welfare of children, careless driving, driving with a suspended/revoked license, failure to turn properly and driving under the influence of Metabolite. The charges stem from an Aug. 4, 2013 incident and were filed by McAdoo Patrolman Homanko.Negron was released on his own recognizance.Ashley Paulshock, 28, of 210 E. Washington St., McAdoo, waived charges of driving under the influence of alcohol (first offense), driving with a suspended/revoked license and careless driving. The charges were filed by Rush Township Patrolman Adam Sinton following a Sept. 22, 2013 incident.She was released on her own recognizance.Brian J. Bindus, 42, of Sugarloaf, waived charges filed against him by Pennsylvania State Police Trooper David Mayes. The charges include driving under the influence of alcohol (first offense), disregard of a traffic lane, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, improper turning movements, driving too slow for conditions and careless driving. Trooper Mayes stopped the defendant on Oct. 12, 2013.Bindus was released on his own recognizance.Robert M. Seliga, 48, of 401 S. Kennedy Drive, McAdoo, waived charges of fraud for altering/forging a counterfeit registration and for displaying a known fictitious/stolen inspection sticker. He was charged by McAdoo Patrolman Jeffrey Tanner following an Oct. 13, 2013 incident.Seliga was released on his own recognizance.Lisa Marie Kelly, 45, of 1020 Pottsville St., Pottsville, waived her preliminary hearing on charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property. The charges were filed by Tamaqua Patrolman Peter Wysochansky following a Sept. 18, 2013 incident.She was released on her own recognizance.
