Debra Grosser, 56, of Bayville, N.Y., was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 1:23 a.m. Jan. 19 on Route 940 in Pocono Pines, according to Pocono Mountain Regional Police.

Police said she was partially ejected from and trapped inside her vehicle when police arrived at the scene. She was freed from the wreckage by volunteers from the Tobyhanna Township Fire and Rescue squad, transported to Pocono Mountain West High School campus and airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Police said she underwent surgery and her condition was not known.Police said she was driving a vehicle that veered off the roadways, spun sideways and struck a tree. Police said the initial investigation determined she fell asleep while driving.Police said a dog and a cat were also in the vehicle. They were taken to Creature Comforts, a veterinary service.
