Pocono Mountain Regional Police have arrested John Hughes, 20, of Greentown, on fugitive warrants that were out against him for violations in Monroe and Wayne counties.
Police said he was taken into custody at 2:48 p.m. Jan. 17 on Route 196 in Tobyhanna, driving a vehicle northbound near gate K & L of a Pocono Country Place.When police attempted to stop the car, Hughes ran off the road into a bank, backed up and almost struck the police car before fleeing south. Police said he jumped out of the car while it was moving and ran into the woods, but was later apprehended by officers.Police said they learned Hughes was wanted in Monroe County for absconding on a parole violation stemming from a robbery charge and had a bench warrant issues against him in Wayne County for receiving stolen property.He will be charged by PMRP with unlawful flight to avoid apprehension, fleeing and eluding police and multiple Motor Vehicle Code violations.
