The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met Jan. 16 with 69 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session. Jacque Patrick provided the invocation "The Minute of God."

Reports were offered by secretary Ruth Ann Feane and treasurer Penny Schlorf. Michael Trubilla and Dolly Kamant were added to the sick list. Dues for 2014 are being accepted. Member Helen Trimble was congratulated on her 91st birthday.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, on Route 54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Veterans helpA representative from the Disabled American Veterans will be available once a month at Tamaqua Borough Hall to offer free veteran's claim service for veterans as well as widows and dependent children of veterans. Information and assistance will be provided for service connected disability claims, low income pension, health care claims for service connected disabilities and low income veterans and other questions concerning veterans' benefits.The representative will be at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St. at 9 a.m. on Jan. 27, Feb. 10, Feb. 24, March 10 and March 24.For more information, call Margaret at 570-668-0300.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA, including nursery and primary church. Sunday school classes, for all ages, will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.Also this Sunday, a Christian Education meeting will be held at 11:45 a.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., kitchen and social committee meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.An hour of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
