Palmerton hopes over time to develop a list of potential candidates for its police department.
To that end, the borough's Civil Service Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday to discuss updates to the Civil Service Commission rules and regulations.Any other business brought before the commission may be acted upon at that time as well.Borough manager Rodger Danielson said the borough hasn't "put out a new call for a list of candidates for probably five or six years.""So what we did was we had our consulting attorney update our rules and regulations," Danielson said."The commission has them now and is reviewing them, and hopefully they will be sent over to council for approval."Danielson noted that last fall, council said it would like to have a list of potential candidates for its police department."It's for candidates to test," he said. "It's a step in the process."However, Danielson noted the police department is not looking to add any officers at this point in time."There are no openings now," he said. "But, it's a good practice to have a valid list in case there are changes in the department for any reason."
