Man gets state time for striking police officer

A Carbon County man, who admitted striking a Jim Thorpe police officer while he was directing traffic and also admitted to illegal recording of movies and his part in a fight at the county jail, was sentenced on Tuesday.

 Robert W. Monroe, 53, of Albrightsville, was sentenced to total of 48 to 108 months in state prison. He previously pleaded guilty to one count each of aggravated assault with a vehicle-while driving under the influence, accidents involving death or serious injury, DUI of a controlled substance. Those charges were filed on connection with striking of the police officer. He also had pleaded guilty to copying recording devices in a second case and to counts of failure to disperse and persistent disorderly conduct for the incident at the prison. The incident with the police officer occurred on Nov. 30, 2011.
