Tamaqua man given state prison term for sexual assault

A Tamaqua man, who pleaded guilty last November to charges of statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors, was sentenced by Judge Jacqueline Russell in Schuylkill County court to a term in a state correctional institution.

Jarrod A. Bowman, 256, of 415 N. Railroad St., Apt. 2, on the charge of statutory sexual assault of a 14-year-old Tamaqua girl, was sentenced to serve one to two years and when released have no contact with the victim. On the charge of corruption of minors drew a concurrent sentence of six to 12 months. The police investigationg report indicated the two met through Facebook and the girl lied about her age and she went to his apartment.`Russell added that Bowman has been determined to be a Tier III sexual offender but not a sexually violent predator but was advised of his registration duties when released from prison.Russell ruled that he will have the duty throughout his lifetime to register with police in the community he will live. Charges against Bowman were brought by Cpl. Henry Woods.
