The Zinc Corp. of America yesterday announced that it will be closing its zinc oxide facility in Palmerton resulting in the layoffs of 100 local men and bringing to an end a legacy of over 80 years of zinc production at the plant.

Workers were notified yesterday of the phasedown, which is scheduled to be completed by September of this year.
