Man brings drugs into prison

A Lehigh County resident, who was serving a weekend sentence at the Carbon County prison, has been charged with bringing a controlled substance into the prison.

Nesquehoning police identified the suspect as Stephen Timothy Meleschuk, 55, of 225 Seventh St., Whitehall. Meleschuk has been charged with contraband (controlled substance) an felony two; unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.According to the affidavit of probable cause on Friday, Jan. 10, officer Steven Homanko received a call from prison personnel that an inmate was found in possession of a controlled substance after coming to the jail to begin serving a weekend sentence.Homanko responded to the jail and learned that prison personnel found narcotics, three yellow pills, in one of Meleschuk's pants' pockets.Meleschuk said he was prescribed the pills but claimed he forgot he had them on him. Homanko learned that the pills were clonazepam, a schedule III narcotic.
