Annual banquet to be held Sunday

The Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar-Athlete banquet will be held this Sunday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Northampton Memorial Community Center.

The TIMES NEWS area will be well-represented at the annual events as 14 boys and girls players have been selected to attend.The evening's featured speaker will be Mike Barr, who is the director of coaching for Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer.Below are bios on all the TN area soccer scholar-athletes.Catherine E. Condly, Jim ThorpeCondly is a forward with 71 career goals and 28 career assists, while tallying 27 goals and 11 assists this season. She ranks 25th in a class of 152 with a 92.4 grade out of 100. She has been a varsity starter for all four seasons, holds the school record for goals scored in one season, and is the school's all-time scoring leader.In addition to playing soccer (including 13 years of club and youth experience), she plays basketball and participates in cross-country and track and field. She is the vice president of her class and the editor-in-chief of the Olympian Yearbook. She is also a member of Olympian Leadership Council, Pep Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.), Student Council and Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science.She plans to attend a four-year college, and remains undecided on her major of choice.Steven M. Principe, Jim ThorpePrincipe is a forward with 46 career goals and 13 career assists, including 24 goals and seven assists this season. He ranks 15th in a class of 152 with a grade of 92 out of 100.He was a First-Team All-Schuylkill League selection in 2012 and 2013, while also earning All-Area honors as a senior. He ranked second in the league in scoring in 2013. He is also a member of the basketball, canteen and track and field teams, while serving as a member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. He has been on the Principal's List/Honor Roll each year.He plans to attend a four-year college and major in Chemistry.Schyler L. Cordova, LehightonCordova is a defender for Lehighton. She ranks 19th in a class of 171 with a 3.85 GPA out of 4.0.She has 11 years of club and youth soccer experience. Her extra curricular activities are: Choir, Show Choir, Jazz Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Interact Club and Community Theatre. She has also been the class president in each year of high school.She plans to attend American University and major in International Studies/Vocal Performance.Peter W. Phelan, LehightonPhelan is a midfielder on the Lehighton team. He ranks fifth in a class of 171 with a 3.9 GPA out of 4.0.He has been a member of the marching band, jazz band, concert band and Science Olympiad for all four years. He has also been a member of Scholastic Scrimmage for two years, and is a member of National Honor Society and FBLA.He plans to major in Engineering in college.Olivia K. Dyer, Northern LehighDyer is a striker for Northern Lehigh with three career goals, all coming this season. She ranks 20th in a class of 136 with a 3.84 GPA out of 4.0.In addition to playing soccer, she was also a member of the Jazz Band.She plans to attend Lehigh Carbon Community College and transfer to a university and complete her degree in Occupational Therapy.Nathaniel M. Czarnecki, No. LehighCzarnecki is a center-back with two career goals and five career assists. He ranks first in a class of 138 with a 3.94 GPA out of 4.0.He is the president of the Video-Club and a student representative for the school board. His extra curricular activities include: video-board operator/editor for the morning show broadcast station, editor and videographer for senior class video and a member of the Homecoming Class Decorating Committee. He is also a member of the track and field team, and has played club soccer for nine seasons at BMYSL.He plans to attend a four-year college to major in Mechanical Engineering.Melissa F. Smith, NorthwesternSmith is a forward with six career goals and five career assists. She ranks fourth in a class of 188 with a 4.0 GPA out of 4.0.Her extra-curricular activities are: president of FCCLA, class secretary, National Honor Society, Student Council, Key Club and Friends for Life. She also volunteered at Special Olympics and Miracle League, and has 10 years of club soccer experience.She plans to attend a four-year private college and major in Early Childhood/Special Education and Psychology.Leigham S. Breckenridge,NorthwesternBreckenridge is a midfielder with 11 career goals and six career assists. He ranks first in a class of 188 with a 4.0 GPA out of 4.0.He is the treasurer for National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Key Club. He is a member of the Leo Club, FBLA, Scholastic Scrimmage, Friends for Life, Debate Team and Science Team. He was recognized with the following awards: Lehigh University's High School Scholar's Award, Moravian College's Dean's Scholar Program Award, DeSales University's High School Scholar's Award, Bosch and Lomb's Honorary Science Award, National Merritt's Scholarship Program Letter of Commendation and a silver and three bronze Science Olympiad Awards.He plans to attend college and obtain a degree in Biomedical Engineering.Jenna K. Creed, PalmertonCreed is a defender for Palmerton with seven career goals and 14 career assists. She ranks 7th in a class of 108 with a 4.0 GPA.She has 10 years of club/youth soccer experience on Towamensing Soccer Club and Caron United, and is also a member of the track and field and cheerleading teams at Palmerton. She is also a member of Student Council and Environmental Club.She plans to attend a four-year college to major in Sports Medicine.Dakota P. Strohl, PalmertonStrohl is a defender for Palmerton with one career assist. He ranks fourth in a class of 112 with a 4.14 GPA out of 4.0.He has been the class treasurer all four years of high school, and has 10 years of club/youth soccer experience with Towamensing Soccer Club. His extra curricular activities are: National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Environmental Club, Leo Club and Student Council.He plans to attend Lebanon Valley College and major in Physical Therapy.Dana M. McAllister, Pleasant ValleyMcAllister is a defender/midfielder with 10 career goals and 15 career assists. She ranks second in a class of 442 with a 100.4421 grade out of 100 percent (unweighted).She is a member of National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. She received the Top Math Student Award in 2011, 2012 and 2013, is the Founder and President of Anti Bullying Group "SPEAK" and has participated in track and field and cross-country during her high school career. She has seven years of club soccer experience with Lehigh Valley Magic and West End Soccer Club.She will attend Stevens Institute of Technology and major in BioEngineering.Connor P. Phillips, Pleasant ValleyPhillips is a member of the Pleasant Valley soccer team, and has recorded 14 career goals and 15 career assists, including eight goals and three assists this season. He ranks 50th in a class of 445 with a 94.57 grade out of 100.He was a First-Team All Star for the Mountain Valley Conference in 2012 and 2013. He has a combined 10 years of club/youth soccer experience with West End and Keystone Athletic Grifos. He is also a member of National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and Regional Competition Placement.He plans to major in Business Administration in college.Rachel C. Moon, WeatherlyMoon is a forward for Weatherly with seven career goals and 10 career assists. She ranks second in a class of 54 with a grade of 100.8.She was named to the All-Schuylkill League Second-Team, and awarded the team's MVP award this season. She is a member of Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U.), the chorus, Health Professions Club, Partners In Education (P.I.E.), National Honor Society and Selecting, Planning, and Researching Careers (S.P.A.R.C.). She has six years of club/youth soccer experience with the Greater Hazleton Youth Soccer League.She will attend Misericordia University to major in Speech Language Pathology.Adam N. Capone, WeatherlyCapone is a midfielder with three career goals and four career assists, all coming this past season. He ranks 17th in a class of 54 with a grade of 93.64 out of 100.He was a Schuylkill League Second-Team All Star selection as a senior. He also plays baseball for Weatherly, and is a member of Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U.).He plans to attend Full Sail University and major in Audio Recording.
