Early Thursday evening, drivers reported a two-mile backup along the Hometown Hill and a 40-minutecommute to travel two miles between Tamaqua and Hometown. Similar back-ups took place in West Penn Township, some caused by accidents. By 10 p.m., snow intensified and trafficvirtually disappeared from roads, as seen here at the intersection of Route 54 and 309. Work crews worked feverishly all night to plow roads and stay ahead of the heavysnowfall.
