Effort man jailed for fleeing police

Michael Patrick Schultz, 23, of Effort, was arrested by state police at the Lehighton barracks on Dec. 2 and committed to the Monroe County Correctional facility, Snydersville, on a charge of fleeing and eluding police.

Police said the incident happened at 4:35 p.m. Dec. 1 when police attempted to make a traffic stop of a 2002 Honda CBR motorcycle for multiple traffic violations. Police said the operator failed to pull over and fled, and a pursuit ensued from the West End Plaza in Brodheadsville, traveled onto Route 115 and was terminated by police due to congested traffic and the high rate of speed in which the motorcycle was traveling.Police said their investigation resulted in identifying Schultz as the operator of the motorcycle. He was taken into custody the following day at 233 Orchard View Drive in Effort without incident, arraigned and incarcerated in lieu of $5,000 straight bail.
