A former assistant coach has been named head varsity football coach at Panther Valley High School.

Matt Davis, who served as an assistant coach for several years at Panther Valley, was awarded a two-year contract last night by the school board.A seventh grade math teacher at Panther Valley Middle School, Davis will receive a $4,100 salary in his first year of coaching. An increase in salary is planned for the second year.Davis succeeds Lon Hazlet, who has been the head coach for the past three years.Athletic Director Kristen Black said she is pleased with the hiring of Davis."He'll be a great asset to our whole athletic program," she said.The last two coaches for Panther Valley have been brought-in from outside the school district.Davis also was hired as an assistant baseball coach.Numerous spring sports coaches were also hired by the board.
