Board sets schedule, includes night meetings

The Schuylkill County Commissioners have set policies and meeting dates for the coming year.

The commissioners have scheduled two night meetings in the coming year. The first will be held on April 9 at 6 p.m. and the county retirement board has scheduled its monthly meeting in April to be held following the commissioners meeting that evening. The second night meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10. The meetings will be held in the commissioners board room at the courthouse in Pottsville. The meetings will start at 6 p.m.All other public meetings will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. The by-weekly work sessions will be held at 10 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. However, it will be held Thursday on May 22 also on Thursday, Aug. 7, and on Thursday, Nov. 6.The salary board will meet when necessary to set salaries or establish new job positions. The board will meet following a regular commissioner meeting.The Retirement Board will meet on the second Wednesday of each month. The Prison Board will hold monthly meetings beginning at 11 a.m. at the courthouse on Jan. 16, Feb. 13, April 24, May 23, July 24, Aug. 28, Oct. 16, and Nov. 13. It will hold quarterly meetings in the Schuylkill County Prison Library on March 10, June 12, Sept. 25, and Dec. 11.The public is invited to attend all meetings with public comments at any commissioners boards, work session, salary, retirement, and prison board meetings. A reasonable time will be designated for such participation at the discretion of the chairman.The board adopted the affirmative action plan for 2014. This plan outlines the county's policy to eliminate and avoid discrimination against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, handicap, national origin, sex or age.Current board chairman Frank J. Staudenmeier was re-elected with follow Republican George F. Halcovage, vice chairman. Democrat Gary J. Hess is the third member of the board.
