Heisler's owner appointed Walker supervisor

The owner of Heisler's Cloverleaf Dairy, Leonard Ostergaard, is Walker Township's new supervisor.

During a supervisors' meeting Saturday morning, Ostergaard was sworn in my solicitor Michael Greek. Ostergaard is filling in for Dave Price, who tendered his resignation, effective Jan. 31, during the board's reorganizational meeting in January.Greek explained that Ostergaard will serve until the next municipal election. At that time, he or another township resident can run for the seat. Two citizens, Ostergaard and Carl Felty, had notified the board by letter of their interest in the position.Dave Price attended the meeting, giving Chairman Craig Wagner and Vice-chairman Bill McMullen the opportunity to thank him for serving Walker Township. Both noted Price's service on the board, his role in obtaining grants for the township, and his work with the volunteer fire department.Wagner and McMullen appointed Ostergaard to represent Walker on the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission. The board is still seeking an assistant zoning officer. The supervisors made plans to meet with Dave Horst from the township's engineering firm, Alfred Benesch & Co., Pottsville, to inspect the township's road and make a plan for seasonal road work. The meeting is tentatively planned for 8 a.m. March 6.
