Rig crashes on I-80

A New Jersey truck driver escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 4:19 a.m. Dec. 27 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said George S. Allen, 54, of Monroe Township, was driving a 2000 Freightliner Classic tractor trailer eastbound when it traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a guide rail. Police said the unit rose the rail for about 150 feet, after which time it traveled down an embankment and came to rest in the median of the interstate.Police said the rig was disabled and had to be towed from the scene. The left lane of the interstate was closed for about two hours due to the crash.Police said Allen was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
