Choral concert

The Pleasant Valley Choral Concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday.PV Board meetsThe Pleasant Valley Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday in the district office in Brodheadsville.Monroe SeniorsThe Monroe Seniors will meet at Zion Lutheran in the parish hall will be at 9 a.m., Friday. Due to the Christmas holiday, the group will not meet again until Dec. 27.Deadline todayToday is the last day to sign up for the community Christmas party hosted by American Legion Women's Auxiliary Unit 927 on Route 209 in Gilbert from 1-4 p.m., Saturday.Santa, food, cookies, cupcakes, gifts, activities and more are part of the festivities. It is free for children 1-12. A $1 donation for children above 12, and $2 for adults is requested. The sign-up sheet is in the Legion.Open houseOur Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold an open house at the rectory from 6-8 p.m. Saturday. Members of the church family are welcome.Leos inductedThe Pleasant Valley Leo Club held its induction supper and awards presentation at the high school recently with approximately 65-70 persons present.Nina Giambalvo, club president, served as master of ceremonies, with Charles Rush, from the sponsoring organization, Western Pocono Lions Club, acting president, leading the group in prayer.Giambalvo gave out awards including pins and packets, presenting five medals for Leos doing over 50 hours of service. Recipients were: Nina Rose Giambalvo, Olivia Karaman, Kayla Wolf, Noah Solits and Aracelis Velez. Both Giambalvo and Velez will receive blue sashes for graduation for doing over 100 hours of service, with Giambalvo's being over 200 and Velez's over 100.The four club officers will remain until the end of the school year. They are: Nina Giambalvo, president; Olivia Karaman, vice president; Kayla Wolf, secretary; and Noah Solits, treasurer.Food basket pick-upThose who preregistered to receive a food basket at Effort UMC's food pantry are reminded that Saturday is the day to pick up food baskets. On Dec. 28, the food pantry will be closed. Regular hours will resume in January.Christmas cantataZion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will present its Christmas cantata, "Glory to the Newborn King," with a dozen voices, at 10:30 a.m., Sunday.Christmas Eve Candlelight worship services will be held at 3:30, 7:30 and 10 p.m. on Dec. 24.Special NightEffort UMC will hold Christmas Eve service as follows: the family service will be held at 6 p.m.; a service with candlelight and choir is at 8 p.m.; and the service of lessons and carols will be at 11 p.m.Special musicPleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, 150 Pilgrim Way, invites all to join them for Christmas Eve services. The evening will begin with special music and Christmas carols at 6:30 p.m. Worship of The One who changed everything follows at 7 p.m. and will include Communion and a candlelight service.
