Deer blamed for crash on I81

A deer was blamed for a one-vehicle crash along Interstate 81 in New Castle Township, Schuylkill County. The crash occurred about 7:23 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

State police at Frackville said Gene P. Vrooman, 79, of Scotia, N.Y., was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger southbound when he swerved to avoid a deer on the roadway. He lost control of the truck which went onto the east berm and struck an embankment. Upon impact the truck rotated counter-clockwise, rolled onto its roof, and came to rest on its wheels blocking the left lane and facing west.Vrooman was injured and taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.Troopers cited Vrooman for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
