Raising the roof at St. Matthew's

St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown was really rocking on Sunday as The Cramer Brothers Band lent their music to raising the roof.

The Cramers donated their talents to perform a Christmas Gospel concert to benefit the church's building fund. Randy Cramer is a member of the church. The church plans to build an extension, which will include elevators and handicap accessible bathrooms and a bathroom on the main floor. In addition to all the great music they played, there were lots of special moments during the concert.Duane and Lisa Hawk were in the audience and consented to sing two songs with the band.Professional musician Kristie Jo Mellons, from Nashville, Tenn., was visiting her family in the Poconos for Thanksgiving when she heard about the concert at St. Matthews and came to hear The Cramer Brothers. Randy Cramer recognized her in the audience and asked her to come up on stage to perform with them, which she did, after much coaxing.Mellons played fiddle for country singer Luke Bryan for five years, before she quit to have her son, Cash Whitley (named for Johnny Cash and Keith Whitley.) Before she left the stage, she turned to Randy Cramer and told the audience, "I've been living in Nashville for the last 15 years and this man is the best fiddle player I've ever heard."The band played gospel favorites with Ray Cramer's deep mellow vocals gracing songs like "How Great Thou Art," "That Long Black Train" and "I'll Fly Away," as well as some Christmas favorites like "Jingle Bells."To the delight of everyone, "The Orange Blossom Special," was a hit where Randy showcased his fiddle expertise. Each member of the band was given their own musical moments to shine on their respective instruments. They include Alvin Van Why on steel guitar; Bill Matlack, drums; Mike Carr, guitar; Ric Carhart, bass guitar; Marc Young, keyboard.Throughout the concert, people enthusiastically clapped to the music and often joined in the singing. When it was over, they gave the band a standing ovation and left the concert feeling lighter as they started their Christmas holiday off with music and joy in their hearts, thanks to The Cramer Brothers Band.
