Jim Thorpe police: Student brought air gun to show to girls

An Albrightsville teenager, who brought a replica air-propelled revolver loaded with six 2-inch long bullets to school last Wednesday, remains in Carbon County Prison under $100,000 straight cash bail.

Sabir Duncan Johnson, 18, whose address is listed as 2605 Route 903, brought the Black Ops air gun to the Jim Thorpe Area High School, police said.Johnson was caught after he asked two girls in his class to look at his backpack, which contained the gun.The girls alerted school officials.School administrators locked down the building for two hours when the replica revolver was discovered, and sent automated telephone calls to parents assuring them that their children were safe.Borough police charged Johnson with possession of a weapon on school property and three counts of persistent disorderly conduct all misdemeanors.He faces a preliminary hearing at 1:15 p.m. Dec. 11 before District Judge Edward Lewis, Jim Thorpe.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Det. Lee Marzen, he was dispatched to the school at 8:21 a.m. with Police Chief Joseph Schatz. Johnson, who was in room 209, was taken out of class and detained. Marzen searched Johnson, and found a detachable pressure laser pointer in his right front pocket.Johnson at first denied having any weapons.Police searched the school, and spotted the gun in a blue binder in the classroom in which Johnson had been. Johnson agreed to speak with police, and told them he showed the revolver to the girls, then hid it in the binder under a table when the school was locked down.Neither Schatz nor Marzen were available for additional information as of early Monday.
