Icy roadway blamed for crash

An icy roadway was blamed for a two vehicle crash that occurred about 9:24 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, near the intersection of state routes 61 and 183 in North Manheim Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven Janell Phillips. 43, of Orwigsburg, was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on 61 and negotiating a curve when his vehicle hit a patch of ice causing him to lose control. The car spun counter-clockwise and jumped the median into the oncoming southbound lane where the Cavalier hit a Chrysler Town & County, driven by John Carlson, 64, of Danville, who was southbound.After impact the Cavalier continued across the southbound lanes and onto the berm spinning clockwise until it struck the guide rail with its left. The Chrysler came to rest at the point of impact.Phillips, Carlson, and his passenger, Holly Carlson, 63, same address, were all not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
