Schuylkill driver facing charges

A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges, including driving under the influence, following an incident that occurred about 3:20 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Edward C. Snukis, 25, of Saint Clair, was driving a 2003 Subaru Forester westbound on Mill Creek Avenue too fast for conditions when he lost control of the vehicle.The Forester traveled onto the north berm and impacted with a PPL utility pole with the right front fender. The vehicle continued along the berm for about 35 feet before impacting a mailbox, shrubbery, a chain-link fence, and a vinyl railing before coming to rest against a home.Snukis then fled the scene on foot but was located a short time later and brought back to the scene. He was found to be under the influence and refused to submit to field sobriety tests.He was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test. The vehicle was towed from the scene.Snukis was also cited for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed and other counts, troopers said.
