Couple wants compensation over car towed by Weissport police

Ex-Weissport Mayor Tina Hagenbuch and her fiance Charles T. Unrath are continuing their battle over a towed car with Weissport Council.

Hagenbuch and Unrath have had their attorney James M. Donavan send a letter to Attorney Michael Greek, solicitor for Weissport, demanding that he be compensated for blatant violation of his rights. The letter notes than Unrath will initiate legal action if the matter is not resolved swiftly and to his satisfaction. The letter does not specify what compensation Unrath is seeking. The letter follows a complaint made by the couple at a borough council meeting, when Unrath and Hagenbuch reported to council that officer Steve Armbruster had a car towed that had at one time belonged to Hagenbuch and had recently been purchased by Unrath.Unrath had said that the car was registered and insured, but did not have a valid inspection sticker on it at the time if was towed from where it was parked.Unrath said that the car was parked in a lawful parking space at the time it was towed. After learning that the car was towed, Unrath protested to police that he had 10 days to have the vehicle registered, so he believes that the vehicle was legally permitted to be where it was located at the time it was towed. Also Unrath noted that no written warning was placed on the vehicle by police as required by the borough ordinance.
