A Tamaqua man remains imprisoned on rape related charges following a preliminary hearing before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, last week.

Angel Anthony Resto, 21, of 62 Hunter St., elected to have his hearing but failed to have any of the charges dismissed.Charges of rape of a child, statutory sexual assault with a person between the ages of eight and 11, indecent assault on a person younger than 13, indecent exposure, corruption of minors, and unlawful sexual contact with a minor were all bound over for court trial. The charges stem from a Jan. 5 incident in Tamaqua and were filed by Cpl. Henry Woods.Resto was returned to the Schuylkill County prison, Pottsville, in lieu of $25,000 bail.Brittni L. Shaak, 19, of 9 Whispering Pines Blvd., Pine Grove, failed to appear for her preliminary hearing. The judge heard the case and elected to hold the charges over for court trial.Shaak was charged with three counts of driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia by Rush Township Patrolman Adam Sinton in connection with an Aug. 13 incident.All other defendants scheduled to appear for preliminary hearings last week elected to waive their rights to those hearings.Carlo R. Romero, 25, of 114 E. Fourth St., Hazleton, was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, and criminal use of a communications facility stemming from two drug buys. Charges were filed by Tamaqua Patrolman Anthony Stanell in a July 18 case and Tamaqua Patrolman Thomas Rodgers in a July 24 incident.Bail for each set of charges was set at $25,000 unsecured.Thomas R. Howells, 24, of 218 S. Railroad St., Tamaqua, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, violation of rules on Commonwealth property, and disorderly conduct stemming from a May 26 incident in Rush Township. The charges were filed by Patrolman Chad Woleslagle.Howells was released on his own recognizance.Karen Rimsky, 29, of 242 Mauch Chunk St., Tamaqua, was charged with retail theft by Tamaqua Patrolman Michael Hobbs. The incident took place on Oct. 5, 2011.Rimsky was released on her own recognizance.Desiree Cramer, 21, of 227 Lafayette St., Tamaqua, was charged with two counts of misuse of an access device (credit/debit card), theft by deception, and two counts of receiving stolen property. She was charged by Patrolman Hobbs following a Sept. 9 incident.Cramer was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
