Tamaqua police have filed charges against a Kelayres man in connection with a speeding incident in July.

Alexandre Vazquez, 26, was stopped at 2:48 p.m. on July 23 for exceeding the speed limit on SR309. A routine records check revealed there were numerous warrants issued for his arrest, one from the office of District Judge Steven Bayer, of Tamaqua, and 10 from Luzerne County District Judge Joseph Zola of Hazleton. His license had also been suspended.A pat down search turned up a small round container with a screw top, containing what Vazquez said was Xanax. He admitted buying them "from dude on the street."Vazquez was turned over to Luzerne County authorities that day.Tamaqua police are charging him with possession of a controlled substance, misbranding a prescription drug, driving with a revoked license, and speeding.
