'The Odd Couple' opens Friday at Northern Lehigh

On the surface, they are a complete mismatch right from the start.

Exactly how unusual of a pairing Unger and Madison are will be on full display when the Northern Lehigh Little Theatre presents "The Odd Couple" (Female Edition).Show dates are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday in the high school auditorium. There is an admission fee. Open admission seating will be available at the door.Nick Sander, director, said "The Odd Couple" is a classic comedy."We chose it knowing that our audiences will enjoy it and be familiar with the story," Sander said. "We specifically chose the female edition of the play to showcase the excellent female talent we have in the Northern Lehigh Little Theatre."Florence Unger and Olive Madison are at it again in Neil Simon's hilarious contemporary comic classic: The female version of "The Odd Couple."Instead of the poker party that begins the original male version, Ms. Madison has invited the girls over for an evening of Trivia Pursuit. When uptight Florence needs a place to stay, easygoing Olive takes her in ... but can this mismatched pair of friends survive being roommates?Students who star in "The Odd Couple" include Lydia DeLong as Olive Madison, and AlexisMiddaugh in the part of Florence Unger. Otherstudents who serve as cast members are Brie Williams, Taylor Duplaga, Sandra Moran and VictoriaOquendo, who provideadditional comic relief as the ladies' close-knitcircle of friends.Replacing the Pidgeon sisters from the original male version are the Spanish-speaking Costazuela brothers, aptly portrayed by students Jacob Heintzelman and Gavin Fricker.Sander said "The Odd Couple" figures to be a huge hit with the audience."It's a brilliant script," he said. "Our students have truly enjoyed working on it."
