A Nesquehoning man is behind bars after authorities found a portable meth lab his home Tuesday night.

Chad M. Conklin, 38, of 151 E. Catawissa St., is charged with intent to manufacture a controlled substance; manufacture, delivery, or intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, both felonies; and a misdemeanor charge of use or possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, Lansford, and jailed under $100,000 bail.Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith said the raid was conducted at about 7 p.m. by the state Office of the Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics Investigations and Control and borough police, along with the state police Clandestine Lab Response Team.According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:State parole agents Joe Ruth and Kyle Sock, along with borough patrolman Brian White, went to the house to serve Conklin with a parole violation warrant. Conklin was arrested, and the agents searched his house. They found three digital scales in his bedroom and a backpack in the basement filled with items used to make methamphetamine.The agents contacted Smith, state narcotics agent Charles Horvath, and the Clandestine Lab Response Team (CLERT).Conklin was taken to the borough police station, where he waived his Miranda rights and gave a written statement claiming everything found in the house was his. Conklin claimed he bought pseudophedrine (a methamphetamine component) last week, which he gave to his brother, Kenneth Conklin.Chad Conklin also told police he had gotten methamphetamine from Kenneth on Nov. 8.Police conducted a meth check on Conklin, and it showed he had bought a box of Sudafed on the evening of Nov. 7 at the Lehighton Walmart.A search of his cell phone found that on the morning of Nov. 8, Conklin exchanged text messages with Kenneth about making methamphetamine.
