The Jim Thorpe Public Service Department will be picking up the leaves from today through Friday, Nov. 22. Place the leaves out in the street for pick up and please do not bag them.Toys for TotsThe annual Marine Toys for Tots Foundation Schuylkill-Carbon Marine Corps, League will begin holding registration for the Toys for Tots Campaign at the Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Fredericks Grove Road, Lehighton. This is the only location for registration and no phone calls will be accepted. The registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 15, 16, 22, and 23 and Dec. 6 and 7.To ensure that a family is eligible for the program, there must be a letter from your church/clergy, proof of public assistance or proof of unemployment. Only parents or legal guardians are permitted to register children. The person registering the children must have ID for themselves. Legal guardian must have proof of guardianship. You must have a current, local, photo ID to prove your residence in Carbon County and for each child begin registered, a birth certificate is required. The age limit is 14 years, handicapped children are 16 years.Distribution day will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the church.For more information about the program, call Ed at 570-325-2408.Jazz service and dinnerThe Perseverance Jazz Band will be performing at the worship service at 5 p.m, Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue.Following the service a Thanksgiving dinner will be served in the fellowship hall. Reservations will be needed and sign up sheets are located at the church. The deadline is Sunday, Nov. 17. If you plan to attend, call the church office and leave a message.Community dinnerThe free community dinner at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Race St., will be held on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. This will be the turkey feast. For more information, call the church, 570-325-2241.Class of 1964Members of the Jim Thorpe High School class of 1964 will hold its monthly luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at noon, at Trattoria's Restaurant, Route 903. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a bag of snacks, which will be exchanged. Tony Pagatto. The event will be held on Sunday, Nov. 24, following the morning worship service. Rev. Pagatto is a shared pastor with Dinkey Memorial Church.
