Shingles shot offered at BMHS fair

Blue Mountain Health System will offer a Diabetes Health Fair, a free community event, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Palmerton Hospital Campus, 135 Lafayette Ave. in Palmerton.

The state Department of Health will be offering free or low cost shingles vaccine for people 50 years of age and older, who are uninsured or under-insured. Pre-registration for the shingles vaccine is required at 570-325-6106.This event is open to anyone interested in learning more about diabetes and ways to stay healthy with diabetes. In addition to vendors with diabetes products and samples, there will be blood sugar screenings and educational seminars on glucometers, nutrition and foot care.The laboratory would like to check to see if visitors' glucometers are working properly by comparing test results to the laboratory results. In order for us to do this, visitors must bring their glucometers and test strips to test their own sugar at the time of the blood draw.The Therapy Option will be offering free massages.
