Holiday help

The Tamaqua Salvation Army will be accepting registrations for families in need of a little holiday help this year. This includes holiday food baskets, Toys for Tots and the Angel Tree programs.Dates will be Nov. 4, 5 and 6 only, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A make-up date is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 6.Proper identification and proof of need are required. Registrants MUST provide proof of residence, such as a utility bill; Social Security cards for every household member; proof of all household income, including employment/wages, public assistance, food stamps, Social Security/SSI, and any other type of income; official birth certificates for anyone under the age of 12; expenses, such as rent/mortgage, utilities, food, medical, etc.; and a working phone number.Adult Day CareThe Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for November, including a Christmas shopping trip on Nov. 6.Other activities for the month will include: Nov. 4, scarecrow sweet treats; Nov. 5, bingo; Nov. 7, craft day; Nov. 13, musical entertainment with Audrey Christ; Nov. 15, cooking class; Nov. 18, Thanksgiving dinner; Nov. 20, craft day; Nov. 21, manicure day; Nov. 22, monthly birthday party; Nov. 25, visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten class.In addition to weekly sing-a-longs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service. Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center, or its services, may call 570-668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.Art showThe Tamaqua Community Art Center will host a reception on Nov. 7 to highlight the work of West Penn Township artist William Heffner. The meet and greet session will be held from 6-9 p.m. at 125 Pine St.The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.Zion LutheranZion Evangelical Lutheran Church is offering a Saturday worship service. The contemporary style service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the church social hall. Featured soloist will be Susan Featro.Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include the celebration of Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m., Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Monday, play practice at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, newsletter deadline; Thursday, hoagie pick up from noon to 2 p.m., prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m.The choir rehearses on Thursdays. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Service will include the celebration of All Saints Day and Holy Communion.
