The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met at the home of Cathy Santee, where a program was presented by Eric Yutko. His topic was "Local Legends, Haunts and Spooks of Schuylkill County.Members also attended a Preferential Tea at Chef Allen's in West Reading on Oct. 20, sponsored by the Reading sorority chapters.Members voted to collect homemade cookies, which will be sent to U.S. military troops in the Middle East. The cookies will be collected at the next meeting, which will take place at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 6 at Two Kings Pizza in Hometown. Nancy Meiser will serve as hostess.Rush-Ryan seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 22 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 55 members in attendance. Three new members were welcomed.President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine provided the invocation and reports were offered by secretary Shirley Becker and treasurer Gloria Gerhard.Rose Valee and Ellie Zakrewsky were welcomed back. Birthday greetings were extended to Louise Horn. The group is planning a Spirit of Philadelphia event for May.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Voting changeDue to the bridge construction project on East Broad Street, voters in Tamaqua's Precinct 3 will see a temporary change in polling site. Instead of the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, the voting place has been changed to Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.Thanksgiving dinnerThe Tamaqua Salvation Army will sponsor a free community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is located at 105 W. Broad St.The Salvation Army is teaming up with the WNEP Feed A Friend Campaign, collecting canned and nonperishable food items.
